easy stainless steel cleaner

Hi Members,
I was told by a friend of mine that there was a stainless steel cleaner based on citric acid for easy stainless cleaning. Something like a wipe-on and wash off method.
I am nearly finished with my bread prover to smoker conversion but the unit has a lot of brown stains both in and outside.
The stainless is virtually unmarked and I would like to finish up with a new looking unit.
Nobody local knows of anything available, even the stainless boys. Some remember only that there was a spray-on/wipe off product on the market that worked very well a few years ago but that's all.
Do we have any members with a solution that would save me from buffing the whole unit.

We used to use dilute nitric acid to remove the heat discoloration caused by welding. Hydrochloric acid will destroy most organic contaminates. I have lately used blue can Easy-off® oven cleaner on things that seemed impossible.

I've had great luck on stainless steel stains...hey, wait a minute....if it's stainless.....

Start over. I've had good luck with a product called Greased Lightning. Spray on, let sit, wipe off...stubborn stuff may take a second application of GL and removal with fine steel wool.

Or.....
simply spread catsup (ketchup) on it VERY thickly and leave it alone for a few hours. Wipe it up and wash it and you'll be amazed.

There is a product that is called "BAR KEEPERS FRIEND" which is designed for cleaning stainless steel cookware and counter tops. Its a powder that you apply to a sponge and get wet and does a great job of cleaning stains on stainless. I use it on my stainless pans and our kitchen sink and it is not that expensive. Last time I bought it, I got it at Wally World (Walmart).
