Scale model smokehouse
Yesterday I was sketching a smokehouse plan and realized that I could build it to scale of about 2 inches to the foot and have it come out about right to allow me to use a squirrel as a substitute for a pig and sparrows for chickens and robins for turkeys. Nancy suggested that the squirrel hide with head attached would work as a rug in the dollhouse next to the smokehouse.

Ross,
You have me intrigued!
Now, how will you position the tree rats on the smoker? Butterfly or racing style? If butterfly you need to add square inches!
Now, the sparrows will be fine, but again, you must plan ahead... Whole birds or spatchcocked? If whole bird, will they be upright on a frame or laid out on their back? Rack spacing needs to be taken into consideration.
Not sure about the rules in your neck of the woods, but robins are protected here, so I'd lean towards the European starlings, about the same size, lots of them critters available, but a bit more gamey than the robins. The right brine should fix that though...
While on the subject, have you thought about hanging the red horse minnows for a cold smoke? They are found in great numbers in your area....
Before you build, you should look at all options for smoked critters!
