Hard to find turkey deals this year

They all seem to make you spend at least $25-$30 for the 2 for 1 deal, and then limit you to just one free bird per deal. I just got back from Savemart with two 20lb turkeys, 59¢ lb. They have prime on sale for $5.99lb so that was the $30 I had to spend for the 2 for 1 deal. I had two half primes on the belt,$52 each, two turkeys, and two porkbutts when the gal tells me it's only one 2for1 deal per transaction. I told her to not ring up one of the half primes and the porkbutts, I'll just come back tomorrow for that deal. She handed me my receipt and told me to take a survey when I got home, bring the receipt back with me tomorrow and save a extra 10%. Mrs G handled the survey, the magic number is written on the receipt, and tomorrow I'll cop the rest of my years supply of steak and some other goodies at even greater savings. Nothing is easy. The porkbutt will work out to $1.25lb, which isn't bad. Last Xmas I scored 120 pounds at 99¢lb, this whole feed corn shortage has screwed everything. RAY

Yikes!
Talk about doing your homework...
Have you found that there is a shortage of "large" turkeys this year?

Yes I have CW. I got the two biggest birds available, both right at 20 pounds, 2-3 pounds smaller than my wife requested. There's another local market that's selling turkeys from 8 to 12 pounds for $5.99 each, no limit, no minimum. I'll pick up 3-4 birds there to either smoke or do on the Ronco 4000. It's interesting how we change during the course of life. I used to eat the equivalent of a 20lb whole prime rib in a month, now it last almost a year. RAY

PS: Bruce Aidells Complete Book of Sausage arrived here today. So far a real nice read and a lot of recipes I want to try out, Chicken-Apple sausage will be at the top of my list.
