Hi,
Smokers should always be vented to some extend otherwise you will finish up with a bitter tasting end result.
From my experience, I always leave the chimney vent 1/4 open and the air inlet 1/2 open to produce a great smokey taste.
Fresh smoke should waft past your sausages or whatever you are smoking and leave the smoker rather quickly.
Graybeard, your smoked sausages look great!!!!!!!!!
Cheers,
Jan.

Thank you for all of the compliments! I have a 1st generation masterbuilt smoker I got new off of Amazon and I made the mailbox mod for it. I did have the vent only open 1/4. The smoke does seem to go through the smoker at a good pace.

Graybeard keep your 1 generation it is great. 2nd generation has the top vent out the side. To me it does not vent as good. I built a chimney for it. As crusty 44 says, the smoke has to circulate.
