Goodbye Windows 8

Post by sawhorseray » Wed Jan 16, 2013 20:55

After ten days of struggling to get my 87 year-old father-in-law to be able to use his new computer tower that was loaded with Windows 8 I gave up. I took the tower back to Best Buy and had them down-grade the operating system to Windows 7. Something about not being able to teach a old dog new tricks came up at the sales counter, and I had to agree. Unfortunately, I'm one of those old dogs myself. RAY

There is a Windows 7--8?

I'm still doing fine with XP. Why don't they quit trying to make it work better when everything is working fine!

I was running out of ram and my hard drive was going south on my Vista system so I increased my ram from 1 gig to 8 and my hd from 320 to 500 GB. when I did all of that i installed Windows 7.

I am looking about buying a new laptop, all have Windows 8 installed but my IT class teacher told me to leave it alone. He said just buy the $ 14.00 option and they will install it when the bugs are sorted.
Yes, I am going to OLD GEEZER computer classes as I have also up graded my very old desktop. Now I find myself with new names for everything under the son, everything is back to front and I even have something now called Evernote. I just don't know what to do with it yet.
I had enough trouble with Photobucket!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder I am prematurely old.

Aside from Microsoft's attempt to keep up with the latest cheesy Apple interface offering, there is only one other reason to change it- - every time they upgrade the operating system, they don't bother to update the peripheral drivers, so your printer and your scanner and your other expensive add-ons have to be replaced.

If I wanted to play games by sticking my sticky fingers all over my screen, I'd go buy an Apple for 10x the price of a PC laptop. (Don't hold your breath.)

Hey Jan

Just like my old man except i have to impart my expertise over the phone or gets someone in to sort it out. Couple that with a 5 hour time diff back to NZ and some how it can all get lost in translation. That's when the native language starts to come out " Godverdomme" :grin:

Could also be caused by PBKAC (Problem Between Keyboard And Chair) :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Ahhh. Older ager. Not sure if i'm looking forward to it!

Cheers

Jan,
At our age, the only so-called "smart phone" settings we need would be one ring tone (loud), vibrate (for when we no longer can hear), and defibrillate.

But then, a deaf person carrying a phone makes about as much sense as putting Braille symbols on the drive-up automatic teller machines did.

The Golden Years:
(YOU fill in the blanks!) :???:

I cannot see,
I cannot _____
I cannot chew,
I cannot _____
Oh my Lord,
What can I do?
My memory shrinks,
My hearing stinks;
No sense of smell,
I look like hell;
My mood is bad,
Can you tell?
My body`s drooping,
Have trouble _____
The Golden Years
Have come at last;
The Golden Years,
Can kiss my _____!
If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably needs more time on the grill! :D

Ducko and CW hit the nail on the head! In the future we'll most likely be better off for being remembered as not having ever been here at all. I found Cw's Butch Cassidy hog rub, I know my future! RAY
