I got my new hunting license and hog and deer tags today, shot a $100 bill down to nothing. With the aid of my wife I have finally come to the realization that my days of sleeping on the ground in a tent are over, just too much arthritis. The past few years I'd hunt with a couple of Hungarian brothers who are twenty years younger than I, they were good on retrieves, I was good on the camp stove. I've accepted a invitation to hunt at a old friends cabin in the Sierras, I guided him to a few wild hogs years back. He's got a ATV I can ride around on, comfortable beds, showers, even a big screen TV with satellite dish, and a full kitchen to cook in. It's exactly a two hour drive from my house to the cabin, I'll specialize in weekday hunting adventures for a couple of days at a time. Of course I'll be showing up with a full array of smoked bacon and chickens, loads of fresh sausage, and plenty of liquor and beer. I won't much care if I get a buck or not, this will be better than going to Disneyland. Boy howdy, I've really gotten soft the last couple of years! RAY

Ray, My favorite deer taking story came from an Air Force buddy. He came home very early one morning to his parents house and in the orchard behind the house the deer were eating windfall apples. The only rifle he could find shell for was an old .45-70. So he said he opened the kitchen window and sat down at the table and touched off a shot. Said that he got the deer and woke up the whole house.

The cabin is about ten miles away from Spicer Meadows Reservior, a place my host has been fishing his entire life, we slam nice trout there. Uh, the dancing girls are out according to my wife. The cabin is at a elevation of 5600 feet and when the snow falls up higher the deer come running right down thru there. It'll be a bonus to be a two hour drive away, my friend Dan will just call me as soon as any weather hits. I'm not going opening weekend, WAY too many idiots out there.
