I know its an old post but I'll chime in a little.
What's your budget? If you've only smoked 20 times and the firebox burned up already then, sorry to say, its junk. Luckily you're in the hill country and short drive to Houston. Look up Gator pits.

If you don't line the fire box with cast iron or fire bricks you should expect it to burn out. No self respecting stove builder uses steel for the lining of a firebox.
